Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Bergen Catholic (Oradell) senior defensive back Jaeden Gould is the 2021 MaxPreps New Jersey High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder led the Crusaders to a 12-0 record, a national No. 4 ranking in the MaxPreps Top 25 and their 15th state title with a 28-7 win over St. John Bosco.
Gould locked up one side of the field while leading a defense that gave up 94 points all year while posting four shutouts. He had a team-best four interceptions, tying with teammate Jayden Bellamy, to go along with 27 tackles and two pass deflections.
The highly-touted defensive back has 38 college offers, according to 247Sports, which ranks him the No. 2 senior recruit in the state and the No. 23 cornerback in the country. He's had visits to Penn State and Nebraska and appears to be leaning toward the Cornhuskers.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in early January.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Patrick Graham took his seat on the bus to the Miami airport, grabbed the tablet from his bag and did not waste any time going to work.
The Giants assistant head coach and defensive coordinator sped through the loss to the Dolphins, likely as fast as he could, given the circumstances of that performance were still relatively fresh in his head.
Then it was time to turn to Sunday s opponent, the Chargers, so shortly after settling in on the Giants charter flight here – a long one to Arizona - Graham started his review of the Justin Herbert-led offense.
“I watched our game on the bus, and on the plane ride I pulled up the Chargers,” Graham recalled before Thursday s practice on the campus of the University of Arizona. “And I think it was the third play, I saw Herbert drop back and threw a ball 25 yards down [the field] on a rope.”
That s when Graham shut the screen and went to sleep, knowing the challenge of facing one of the NFL s best quarterbacks – regardless of age - would be there in the morning.
"Get to this tomorrow," he said with a half-hearted chuckle of a man plenty aware of what the Giants are up against inside SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles this Sunday.
In another football universe, Herbert would be starting at quarterback for the Giants.
As the Celtics near the end of a four-game road trip, they play the second half of a back-to-back in L.A. against the Clippers after a loss to the Lakers. The Clippers should smother the Celts while keeping the score low we analyze in our NBA picks.
The Los Angeles Clippers take on the Boston Celtics on Wednesday when Los Angeles will be looking to win its third game in the last four. Jaylen Brown is questionable for the Celtics, and him being banged up certainly helps the Clippers cause.
Will Los Angeles deal Boston a loss in this building for the second-straight night? Our free NBA betting picks and predictions for Celtics vs. Clippers have the answers.
Odds via the Covers Line, an average comprised of odds from multiple sportsbooks.
The Clippers opened as 4-point favorites over the Celtics, who just lost to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. The line appears to be holding at -4 across the board, though it can be had at Clippers -3.5 in some spots. The total, however, has experienced some serious movement, going from 213 at open to as low as 210.

Mitchell is once again leading the Jazz in scoring, averaging 23.7 points per game, but he's shooting a career-worst 33 percent from beyond the arc and could be in a tough spot tonight. The Jazz head to Cleveland to face the Cavaliers who have surprisingly become one of the better defensive teams in the NBA.
The Cavs are second in the league in scoring defense by holding teams to just 101.7 ppg and they have locked down on the perimeter, allowing opponents to shoot just 32.8 percent from deep.
While the injury to Collin Sexton hurts them on the offensive end of the floor it gives more playing time to the defensively superior Isaac Okoro who should match up with Mitchell. Mitchell has dropped at least 30 points in back-to-back games but prior to that, he had been limited to 21 points or fewer in six of his previous seven contests. Take the Under on his points total which has been set at 24.5.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James got tangled with young Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart at the free-throw line. The result was a near-brawl.It wasn t Malice at the Palace part two, but it nearly escalated to something the Association didn t want to see. James and Stewart got tangled at the free throw line, and the result was LeBron seemingly provoking the young Pistons big during a scuffle.Stewart didn t take kindly to this, and had to be restrained and taken back into the Pistons locker room. LeBron was eventually ejected as well, de-escalating the situation at hand.
LeBron made contact with Stewart on what seemed like an innocent free throw, and it clearly took Stewart by surprise.James is sure to claim the play was an accident, while Pistons fans will suggest otherwise. The two were tangled on a few plays in the first half, but nothing of this variety. That s tough to say, really, but it did leave a mark on Stewart. The Pistons second-year player was bloodied when James fist made contact with his mouth and nose area.Stewart was unhappy, and for good reason.Detroit fans were extremely unhappy with James, and it s easy to see why.Stewart s eye/nasal area was punched by James. It s unclear if the incident was accidental or on purpose. More to come in that regard postgame. That s up to the NBA. LeBron just returned from injury and is one of the game s greatest stars, so don t be surprised if the punishment is rather lenient.
The Rams unveiled their new “modern throwback” jerseys this offseason, an alternate uniform set to go with their royal jerseys and off-white Bone threads. They ve worn them twice this season, each time with yellow pants. However, when the Rams take the field against the 49ers on Monday night, they ll wear their modern throwbacks with royal pants – the first time they ve ever worn this combination. It won t look terribly different from their Bone-and-royal set, but the white-and-yellow throwbacks are far better than the Bone jerseys, so it will definitely be an upgrade. The Rams revealed their uniform choice in the team s official app this weekend.
The 49ers will also be wearing a uniform combination that s new for 2021. They ll rock throwback red jerseys to celebrate their 75th season in the NFL, which they ve worn twice so far this season. It ll make for an aesthetically pleasing matchup between the Rams and 49ers at Levi s Stadium tonight. To leave a comment, you will need to Sign in or create an account if you already have an account. The NBA game is a visual game. There are strategic decisions, plays run, and thousands of tiny details to be followed below the surface. Yet at the end of the day, the NBA is such a popular product because of the visuals – the dunks, the crossovers, the celebrations, the shoes, and especially the jerseys.Other sports leagues have equally recognizable uniforms, but none of the other top leagues embrace creativity and visual pop like the NBA. Each team has a variety of jerseys each year to choose from, and every season teams are coming out with new looks to show off their players and draw the eye (and money, to be honest) of fans.Every NBA team wears their jerseys with pride, but not every blouse is created equal. Which teams have the best jerseys, and which have room to improve?
NBA power rankings: Ranking all 30 teams NBA jerseys The question then becomes, who has the best jerseys? Which look the best and which teams need to go back to the drawing board? This is a difficult, and subjective, question all on its own but becomes even more complicated when you factor in that each team has anywhere from four to six jerseys. This year, the league s 75th anniversary season, only adds to the number of potential looks floating around. We re going to try and simplify things a bit, and only look at the primary three jersey looks for each team. Nike brands these the “Association” Edition (home whites), the “Icon” Edition (colorful, former road jerseys), and the “Statement” Edition (Jordan brand, bold look). All 30 teams kept these jerseys the same this year, so we have had at least a full season from each to evaluate.
The City Edition jerseys are almost entirely new this season. We left them out of the equation here, but look at a breakdown and ranking here. For those teams that have other alternates, including the “Classic” Edition for the league s three teams also celebrating an anniversary (New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Golden State Warriors), they will not be included them here. Shout out to Locker Vision for providing visuals of all jerseys this season, as well as the schedule of when each will be worn. Our criteria for evaluating the jerseys take a lot into account. How clean is the look? Is it confusing? How well do the colors work together? How does it represent the city and the team? What history is involved in that look? Do I like it? All of these factors and more went into the ranking. Finally, I thought it would be helpful to bring in an outside perspective. Evaluating jerseys for diehard fans is one thing, but what do casual or “non-fans” think? To help with this, I pulled in the opinion of my wife, who doesn t watch basketball. What did she think of the jerseys at first glance?Without further ado, let s jump in with our 30th ranked team, which made a design choice for all three jerseys that simply doesn t look good.
